Take tea at Sutton House
Sutton House is the Grade II* Listed oldest house in Hackney and has its own National Trust fully licensed tea-room, which offers a range of drinks, cakes and snacks.
It also has its own second-hand bookshop, with shelves packed with a range of books at very reasonable prices. Visitors can choose between sitting outside, in the conservatory, in the 'library' area pictured, or out in the main courtyard of the house.
It's all rather twee, and you could almost not be in Hackney at all, but - thank God - you are. The tea-rooms are open Thursday - Sunday from noon until 4.30pm. For more, and directions, see http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-suttonhouse.htm

Another strange little place, and so un-Hackney... but then I have the same feelings about the William Morris gallery on Forest Road in Walthamstow :)
