Vote

Today in London you can vote for who represents you in an odd circular room in Strasbourg (and occasionally Brussels) to talk about some of the most mundane things you can think of.

Anti-discrimination legislation, free movement of goods, workers, capital and the freedom of establishment to provide services may sound vaguely interesting, but when they're debated through an interpreter by people who have a whole range of incomprehensible issues with each other and chips on their shoulders, they become even more tedious. That said, endless bureaucracy doesn't produce itself.

However, it's always better to be represented by someone who shares your views, and if you're not that bothered why not vote for someone inoffensive, who isn't filled with all the hate it is possible to have in your heart.

Your author is, however, a keen advocate of your right not to vote if you just don't care. Not caring is generally a symbol that everything is just about fine. You may wish to consider, however, that there are other people who care enough to vote but have views that are just wrong.

Anyway, your author will be visiting his local polling station, even if just to spoil the ballot paper, as he gets to make his annual trip to vote in the grand surroundings of Shoreditch Town Hall. He recommends that you also make the trip as you may, if nothing else, gain an insight into your local community that you did not have before, by visiting a local school, community centre or town hall which you may not normally get to see.

this is utter nonsense and a fallacy. i care but i do not vote as i do not believe that a choice between power hungry pricks is democracy and i wish to play no part in such a greedy and corrupt system. not caring does not mean everything is just about fine, its more of a "symbol?" that people have lost their faith in the political system. to imply that to not vote is to not care and therefore everything must be fine is a fallacy. there are more variables and ideas than can be summed up in this worthless piece of propaganda.

this is also a fallacy. this is assuming that there is such thing a morality. there isn't. there is only opinions of morality. you cannot even begin to suggest to people that their opinions are "wrong" because to them they are right. even someone believing that the BNP are right are no different than someone believing in the mainstream parties spin as being right.
fundamentally politicians will say anything to get the vote and even if their intentions are initially good then they will sooner or later play along with the already corrupt system's rules. all we are left with in people who do vote is someone who has been manipulated into thinking that who they are voting for isnt just a self serving, or soon to be, arse.

just the way you write this reeks of political spin. the way you think that politically there is "right and wrong" or "good and evil" when the system is the system and has not and will not fundamentally change at its core as long as people are stupid enough to play the game and vote. it is a system that is perpetuated by manipulation and a manipulted "popular" opinion created by propaganda that if we don't vote then we don't care. its bullshit. i care. A LOT. and that is why i do not vote. if you vote it is YOU who cannot complain because you were stupid enough to vote the arseholes in in the first place. there has not been one government who has not done some extremely self serving, greedy, pandering to the rich and themselves, leading to inflated nationalism and racism in its populace, ever.

  2. There are plenty of people who write politics blogs for you to rant at you know...

The point of this site is to give, daily, lighthearted suggestions and commentary on things to do in London...that's why I said that the best thing about voting was that I get to go somewhere pretty.

Speaking of which, my aunt votes in a pub. Where's the oddest place you know that acts as a polling station?
