He slowly recreated a series of period rooms in the building at 18 Folgate Street in Spitalfields, to tell the story of a fictitious family of Huguenot weavers who lived at the house from 1725 to 1919, and the house now presents their story through the sights and sounds encountered in the house's many rooms, which are left as though the family had just departed.
Severs bequeathed the house to the Spitalfields Trust just before he died in 1999, and it's now open to the public every Monday evening (£12 - booking necessary), every Sunday 12-4pm (£8 - no booking required) and at some lunchtimes. For more information, visit http://dennissevershouse.co.uk/.
