Whilst the attraction of the various huts seems to be a bit hit-and-miss, the sand is a big draw for parents and toddlers, who might otherwise have to commute many miles to their nearest stretch of pristine sand. As you can see from the picture, it also seems to be appealing to pigeons, but don't let that put you off.Meanwhile, for adults its worth persevering with a showcase of jars of sand from beaches around the country, a library of the sea, some vintage beachwear and a slot machine, amongst others.

Also as part of the Festival of Britain celebrations there's a roof garden with a cafe on the upper level just above here. A great place to while away an hour or so with a beer or a coffee. Part of it is a wildflower meadow - not much to see yet but it should be spectacular when it does. There are also lots of raised beds with vegetable, soft fruit and herbs.
ReplyDeleteI truly love beach huts, on British coasts, Australian beaches or anywhere else I can find them. But beach huts opposite the Royal Festival Hall, stretching alongside the river, might seem a bit strange to the unprepared pedestrian. Mind you, I love the idea of a library of the sea, an old beachwear exhibition, a shell grotto etc etc
