Eat at Whole Foods

Your author prides himself on his up to date articles, so a mere three years after it opened in High Street Kensington, he finally found time to pop down to American Whole Foods, for a spot of lunch.

The result is a shop downstairs, which sells food and that sort of thing, and a not-too-horrendously priced food court upstairs, which is a cross between Harrods Food Hall and Tebay Services, on the M6. It was fine, and worth popping into if you're in a rush, but it is unlikely to change the world.

Get a snack at the Blackheath Tea Hut

Situated at the centre of Blackheath, right on the side of the A2, the Blackheath Tea Hut is a small hut which serves tea and fresh snacks, cooked to order, 24 hours a day, helping to stave off the hunger of passing motorists and others who happen to be in the area.

A simple menu of sandwiches, burgers and cakes is lapped up by all comers, and its a real institution in South East London, so much so that its story has even been made into a film.

Whilst the hut is apparently involved in a few scuffles with Lewisham Council about the closure of laybys in its area, it still maintains a good trade and provides decent food at reasonable prices.

Buy choice cuts at The Ginger Pig

Ginger Pig is a posh butchers with branches in Hackney, Marylebone, Borough Market and Waterloo. They aim to provide meat from the best, happiest animals, raised on Grange Farm, East Moor Farm and Blansby Park Farm in the North Yorkshire Moors.

Whether its Longhorn cattle, Tamworth pigs, or Dorset, Texel or Swaledale sheep, it's all jolly nice, and it's available all over town from well-trained butchers who know what they are doing.

And if this sort of thing really excites you, The Ginger Pig also does Butchery Classes under the tuition of their team of skilled butchers at the Marylebone store, but as with the meat itself it comes at a price.
