See From Garden City to Green City at the Garden Museum

They have all sorts of interesting things down at the Garden Museum, in Lambeth Palace,
and from now until April 2012 they're hosting a particularly interesting exhibition covering the history of the improvement of urban environments through gardens.

The exhibition covers the history from the first Garden Cities, when Londonders looked outwards to find a better environment, to the modern day when we've all been told there is no more outwards and we have to make the best of our inner cities.

It's an interesting visit, and entrance is included with access to the main Museum in Lambeth. For more information, see http://www.gardenmuseum.org.uk/page/gallery-exhibition

  1. I went to the talk Ken Warpole gave yesterday evening on "Landscapes for Leisure" but didn't have a chance to look at the exhibition - must head back to see it though as it looks really interesting.

The talk itself was fascinating, giving a history of parks and gardens as places for recreation and health, from Vauxhall to Festival of Britain's Battersea site to today. He looked at them in a social, cultural and political sense and it was all pulled together excellently. I'd recommend checking out some of Ken's books - I'm certainly going to!
