It is the final day of Greenwich Open Studios today, with the homes and studios of artists open from 1pm - 6pm, and offering the chance to see some of the beautiful things being created by people in the area. Your author went for a wander last weekend, and enjoyed the prints and paintings of
Nicola Corrigan and etchings of Laura Matthews on Maze Hill, the music and water inspired works of
Rob Mills in Banning Street and the paintings and photographs of
Steve Lobb and
Carol Kenna at the Trafalgar Rowing Centre, by the Thames.
These types of events almost always offer a great insight into the homes and minds of the creators of the artworks and for a person who likes to understand how things work, it is a very interesting experience. There is also something fantastic about people making their private homes into public spaces for a few hours, and the trepidation that any sane individual feels when knocking on the door of the home of someone they have never met, and waiting to be asked inside.
