Face off with a Blue Whale

The Natural History Museum's life-size blue whale model was started in the 1930s, created within the museum building.

The whale was completed, having, due to its size, been built within the hall and in full view of the public, in 1938. At that time this was the largest such model in the world, nearly 30m long.

  1. While the way is pretty cool it also depresses me as they've felt the need to put a sign on it saying "Please do not throw coins on the whale's tail" - http://www.flickr.com/photos/cowfish/93828317/

  2. It was one of my favorite things and when I was a kid I used to talk to it. THen they redid everything (largely for the worst) and the whale is no more. The entire museum has started to loose that classic, "night at the museum" feel.
