Established in 1971, in a converted Lyon's Tea Bar on Great Newport Street near Leicester Square, the Photographers' Gallery was the first independent gallery in Britain that was devoted entirely to photography.

Last year, after 37 years in it's old home the Gallery moved to Ramillies Street in Soho as part of a plan to deliver a new larger gallery, due to open in 2011.
